From no scholarship offer a year ago to a house in Lincoln, 2022 keeper Jamarques Lawrence finds a place with Husker hoops | Men’s basketball

Lawrence, a 2022 class shooting guard from New Jersey, signed up for Nebraska on Friday.

The emotions were real for Jamarques Lawrence.

A year ago, the New Jersey native didn’t have a single scholarship offer. But here he is Friday, on Instagram Live, announcing his engagement with the Nebraska men’s basketball team.

“I don’t want to cry right now,” Lawrence told NJHoopRecruit during its announcement. “Probably later. But the feeling, it’s just crazy. I’m really excited.”

A 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard, Lawrence is ranked as a three-star prospect by Rivals and 247Sports, as well as in the 247Sports Composite.

He chose Nebraska over his other finalist, Wake Forest. It was the culmination of months of hard work for the Catholic High School senior Roselle in New Jersey.

“Early in the summer, wake up every day early in the morning, weight room, constantly working on my set, really, and believing in myself,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence officially visited Nebraska on the opening night of the basketball program. He narrowed down his choices to Huskers and Wake Forest shortly after that visit the first weekend in October, a week after his trip to Wake Forest.

“It was – I can’t even explain it,” Lawrence said of his visit to NU. “It was fun. I was just hanging out with the guys (and) the coaches. I had a great relationship with them.”
