Heritage quarterback Josh Braley was injured by injury, but Ashton Rubio stepped in to help the Hawks win the Saginaw Valley League against Bay City Central.
And for his relief work, Rubio won the fan vote for MLive Saginaw Player of the Week, winning 15,633 votes to beat Midland Dow quarterback Jack Bakus, who finished with 14060. Midland’s Jalen Brown High finished third with 6,014 votes.
âAshton is a well-rounded kid⦠shortstop, playmaker,â Heritage coach Justin Thelen said. âHe’s pretty versatile. He started out safe for us.
âWith Josh out, Ashton did a really good job for us. He’s a very strong runner, although he doesn’t necessarily have the breakaway speed Josh has. But Ashton is pretty sneaky and does a good job. work to prepare the blocks of his offensive line.
In the 28-21 win over Bay City Central, Rubio ran for 67 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown. He also threw a 16-yard touchdown pass.
