KNOXVILLE, Tenne Tweeter.

The scholarship is called the Veterans Memorial Affairs Graduate Scholarship. In a simple tweet, Will McNeeley wanted a way to honor the veterans, the Gold and Blue Star families after the Kabul airport attack that killed 13 servicemen in Afghanistan, one of those in the Knoxville area.

It was at this point that associate athletic director Marcus Hilliard contacted McNeeley about setting up a scholarship to honor the lives lost, service members and their families.

McNeeley said, “With the help of Steve Hamer, former basketball player for Flights and current deputy director of development for the Tennessee Fund, and Jerry Hanner, director of development at the Haslam School of Business, this simple idea is now a reality!

Now the scholarship is linked to Haslam School of Business and will be awarded to someone seeking graduate study with the college who has a family connection to the military or someone coming from a service academy / military university.

There is a GoFundMe it’s live now to help the stock market. At 1:45 p.m. Thursday, nearly $ 1,000 had been donated.
