On July 6, 2021, the National Association of Theater Owners of Wisconsin & Upper Peninsula (NATO of WI / UP) named Abigail Rasmussen as the recipient of a $ 1,000 scholarship. Abigail graduated in 2021 from Wausau East High School and will attend Northcentral Technical College, Wausau, WI in the fall. Abigail is employed at the Cosmo Theater in Merrill.
This year, scholarships totaling $ 10,000 were awarded to seven movie theater workers in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula as part of the annual program.
âTheaters have always been places of community gathering,â said Jeremy Rusch, representative of the scholarship committee. âAs business owners, we have a strong desire to maintain the economic health of our communities. Our goal through this scholarship program is to provide assistance to students employed in our industry so that they can continue their education.
WI / UP NATO President George Rouman explained: âThis annual scholarship program is an important part of our commitment to the communities we serve. Since 2000, we have allocated over $ 250,000 in scholarship funds and over $ 1.5 million in donations to various philanthropic causes.
The National Association of Theater Owners is the world’s largest trade association of motion picture exhibitors, representing approximately 39,000 movie screens in all 50 states and more than 20 countries around the world. WI / UP’s NATO represents 700 screens and is one of fifteen regional branches.
