Clinton Washington III, a student at Furman University in South Carolina, was in the first batch of 2021 Dominion Energy Educational Equity Scholars from eight states in the company’s service area.

“In early December, life was extremely stressful due to the impact of COVID-19,” Washington said. “Between having only my mom working and balancing school with financial stress, it was very difficult to maintain a happy frame of mind before my spring semester. When I received the news regarding the Dominion Energy Scholarship for Equity in Education, I was so ecstatic because I knew it would create immense relief for myself and my family to step into my last year. This scholarship really changed the trajectory of my mental health by giving me the freedom to pursue all of my goals for my senior year. Rather than spending an enormous amount of time looking for jobs on campus, I can devote myself entirely to school, graduate projects, and my clubs / organizations. The amount of gratitude I have for this scholarship is not enough in mere words, and I truly hope this can continue for future students like me.
