Approximately 6,075 pounds of groceries were donated to The Mission of Winter Haven as part of the seventh annual Feed The Ridge Food Drive on Sunday. Organized by Winter Haven Christian Church, the food drive spent two hours collecting boxes, boxes and packages donated by their congregation and other members of the local community.

The church also bought groceries using the money given to them during the ride. All the food, both donated and purchased, was then loaded onto a trailer and delivered to The Mission of Winter Haven, a local non-profit ministry dedicated to providing services to those in need.

Feed The Ridge wrote on their Facebook page: “We filled a trailer twice and a shopping van. The format may have been different again this year, but our community came forward to support this event. Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and prayed for the success of Feed the Ridge. Continue to pray for the ministry of the Mission and all who will be blessed by these gifts. ”

For the past seven years, the Winter Haven Christian Church has sponsored the annual food drive through Feed The Ridge. In previous years, they have raised up to 8,000 pounds in food donations. While this year’s fundraising was not as large, the church has received a substantial amount of food donations, even in light of the current pandemic, said Heather Reuter, Founder and Coordinator of Feed the Ridge.

“I am once again touched by our amazing community that comes forward to help donate and serve,” she wrote via Facebook Messenger. “It was such an amazing day serving together as we filled container after container with groceries for The Mission of Winter Haven.”

Much of their success this year and in previous years has come from word of mouth. This year’s event was well promoted and even managed to gain media attention, church member Larry Ferguson explained.

“Last year has been a bit behind because of the pandemic, but this year has been a lot better,” he said. “We have worked with The Mission for several years. Just being able to feed the homeless and take care of people and their needs has been a gift. It was only by the grace of God that they were able to give what needs to be done… We are eager to go on and continue to feed the ridge, putting food where it needs to go.
