Heather Boon is better changing the lives of people like Wendy Sanders, and she wants to keep that momentum going.

“I was in an abusive relationship and it was time to go,” said Wendy Sanders, who stays at Oaks Village Homeless Shelter. “One day I called a lot of places.”

Sanders couldn’t turn anywhere when he realized he was trying to escape.

Then Oaks Christian Ministry of Righteousness I opened the door.

“We have evolved into a year round hideaway. We have a case manager to help people find permanent housing. Where people go to class. It’s a place to help them get out of the addiction, so we started to take care of the whole person. Boon, pastor and founder of Oaks of Richardsness Christian Ministries & Oaks Village, said.

Boon’s efforts have transformed the refuge into a real village.

There is a church and a pantry in the corner.

And the other non-profit nursery and grocery store.

And, of course, a homeless shelter.

“People like Reverend Boone are here because they’re younger than me. It’s not me anymore. These are the younger women who do not have or think they do not have help. Sanders said.

She’s not the only one to be grateful.

Currently, Boone is this year’s USA Today Best of Human Kind Person of the Year award.

“So what an honor it is to be human this year. I don’t even know what that means, but it’s very exciting, ”said Boone.

Indeed, she has every right to brag about Boone after all she’s accomplished. But that’s not why she wants you to vote for her.

“For me, I just want to talk about what we do in this small community. My prayer is that other communities reproduce. The others are what we do. And like, “Hey, there are some things we can do.” You know this wonderful thing, ”Boon added.

And she’s not going to stop there.

She set herself the goal of providing a small home for those who one day want to own their own home.
