“Run” Raiser Helps Fund Sacred Heart School’s STEM Lab Renovations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – A Hattiesburg restaurant and local school are working together to raise funds to focus on a big branch of the education tree,

“The Porter” in downtown Hattiesburg held a Raiser “Run” Saturday for the Sacred Heart Catholic School and the educational focus known as STEM, which stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

This was the second in a series of three “Run” Raiser activities.

During the event, people participate in a 5 km race or eat at the restaurant.

A portion of the proceeds from the meals were donated for renovations to the STEM lab at Sacred Heart Elementary School.

Most runners are gearing up for the upcoming Hattiesburg Half Marathon in April.

The final Raiser “Run” will take place on March 5.

“We have about 28 charity runners who will be running the April Half Marathon in Hattiesburg,” said Erin Dornan, director of advancement at Sacred Heart Catholic School.

“So we have 5-K runners, 10-K runners and a few half runners, so we’re here just to train and eat and some of the proceeds will actually go to STEM resources at Sacred Heart,”

Sacré-Coeur Catholic School is also ending its “Catholic Schools Week” activities with an open day at primary and secondary school on Sunday.

It will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
