Zines wins section title; Clippers, Warriors advance | News, Sports, Jobs

HUBBARD — United junior Mati Zines earned medal honors to lead the region’s golfers Thursday at the Division II women’s golf tournament at Pine Lakes.

Zines shot an 80 to win the tournament by three shots.

The top four teams and four individuals not part of the qualified teams advance to Div. District II tournament scheduled for October 6 in Sable Creek.

Joining Zines in the district will be Team Columbiana, which shot a 394 and placed second, as well as Team West Branch, which shot 421 to take third place.

Ursuline was the team champion with a 365, while Champion will also travel to the district after shooting 429 as a team.

Other individual qualifiers included Bella Woods of Southington (83), Samantha Calderone of Warren JFK (92) and Katie Pregibon of Cardinal Mooney (94).

The district will advance the top three teams and top three individuals not on qualifying teams to the state tournament scheduled for Oct. 21-22 at Ohio State University’s Gray Course.
